The Toronto Maple Leafs are once again considered to be the most valuable team in the NHL according to Sportico&#8217;s annual NHL Valuations.

The team is valued at $3.66 billion making them one of two teams to cross the $3 billion threshold with the only other one being the New York Rangers (though the Montreal Canadiens are not too far behind). Rounding out the top five are the Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings, overtaking the Chicago Blackhawks who have seen their spot fall in recent years. The lowest-ranked team is the Columbus Blue Jackets at just over $1 billion, making this the first time that every NHL team is valued at over a billion.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that Sportico has ranked the Leafs first in Franchise Valuation. They were valued at <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/sportico-lists-the-leafs-as-the-most-valuable-franchise-in-the-nhl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$2 billion in 2021</a>, <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/the-maple-leafs-are-the-most-valuable-franchise-in-the-nhl-for-second-straight-year" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$2.12 billion in 2022</a>, and $2.65 billion last year. The dramatic bump in a calendar year can be attributed to <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/salary-cap-on-the-rise-cba-optimism-and-expansion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the NHL getting out of the salary cap freeze</a> stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent news of <a href="https://theleafsnation.com/news/rogers-purchases-bells-share-maple-leaf-sports-entertainment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rogers&#8217;s purchase of Bell&#8217;s stock in MLSE</a>. That value is only going to further increase in the coming years with a new national rights deal in Canada as well as <a href="https://financialpost.com/fp-finance/rogers-mlse-deal-create-leafs-raptors-jays-ipo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a potential integration of the Toronto Blue Jays</a> into MLSE alongside the Leafs and Toronto Raptors.
Of course, franchise valuation does not translate to on-ice results because all of that capital investment has not been enough to get the Leafs deeper in the playoffs. Sportico&#8217;s ranking merely confirms that the team is the biggest and most financially stable in the NHL, with a roughly $400 million gap between them and the second-place Rangers.
This won&#8217;t solve the issue of the team being in a Cup drought that is approaching six decades long nor will it help them win more than one playoff round, but at least they&#8217;re first in something.
