Joseph Woll is projected to start for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
Woll has been excellent form lately, winning his past three starts. The 26-year-old has posted a 24-12-0 record in 36 appearances with a .908 save percentage. Although it appeared that Anthony Stolarz may be pulling away to start the playoffs, Woll has quietly been better through March, and his uptick in form may present head coach Craig Berube with a good dilemma to conclude the regular season.
Toronto is keeping its lines intact from Thursday’s 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers. Bobby McMann, John Tavares and William Nylander caught fire during the game, with Tavares scoring two goals, while reaching the 1,100-point milestone for his career.
“You don’t take it for granted,” Tavares said Thursday night after the win. “It’s been a great journey, a lot of hard work, obviously I’ve played with two great organizations and a lot of great teammates that have been a big part of that, helping me out a lot of the time and making me look good.”
Calle Jarnkrok and Philippe Myers projected to be healthy scratches.
Scott Laughton remains on the fourth line, with David Kampf and Steven Lorentz. Laughton has struggled to produce throughout his seven with the Maple Leafs, and was expected to function as the team’s third-line centre as a defensively responsible player capable of secondary offence, but Saturday’s game presents a new opportunity to get his first points with the Maple Leafs.
Toronto is on a three-game winning streak and Berube is now tasked with finalizing his optimized combinations for the playoffs, with 13 games remaining in the regular season.
