Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll will start Tuesday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
Anthony Stolarz received starts in consecutive games for the Maple Leafs, and will almost certainly get the nod for Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
“I’m going to have to split them after tonight, the next two games, and we’ll go from there,” Berube said Saturday morning.
Aside from the goaltending change, the Maple Leafs will be running back the same lineup from Saturday’s 5-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jake McCabe and David Kampf have already been ruled out of the Maple Leafs’ next two games due to injuries.
It appears that Stolarz will likely be the Maple Leafs’ playoff starter, winning his past five starts, but Woll has an opportunity to make it a tough decision for Berube against the defending champion Panthers, who are mired in a five-game losing streak. Stolarz has posted a 18-8-3 record with a .922 save percentage and 2.26 goals against average, while saving 19.3 goals above expected in all situations via MoneyPuck, the eighth-best total in the NHL. The 31-year-old was outstanding against the Panthers, during a 3-2 victory on April 2, where he made 29 saves in the winning effort.
Florida will get Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart and Gustav Forsling back for Tuesday’s game, after all three players did not play in the team’s loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Barkov and Reinhart are two of the leading candidates for the Selke Trophy this season, while Forsling is among the NHL’s most underrated players. Sergei Bobrovsky will start in goal for the Panthers.
